The Jewel of Najafgarh
with Anika Pahadia, Devansh Mahajan, & Shubham Kesharwani
client: Urban Design Studio, Indira Gandhi International Airport
location: Dwarka, NCR, India
year: 2015
Located on a 14-hectare site in Dwarka Sector 24, New Delhi, the International Convention Centre Complex features a convention hall, exhibition hall, auditorium, business hotel, luxury hotel, and commercial center. Situated in a largely undeveloped area, this greenfield project was planned to be the urban extension of Najafgarh's natural reservoir, the diplomatic residences, and the golf course.
We received a highly detailed project brief from the client that dictated a precise area program to be followed. The creative challenge that this rigid brief posed inspired us to create spaces for incidental opportunities to occur during the Urban Design phase of this project. Through creative site-level decisions such as integrating the mandatorily required 4-acre green space with the adjacent golf course, creating a unified green space accessible to the public.
After the master planning phase of the project was concluded, we were asked to make detailed architectural plans for all the buildings on-site. We investigated innovative structural resolution methods and technologies to create function spaces with large capacities.
