This project focused on developing a master plan for a resort extension to a heritage hotel in Tiracol, Goa. Vernacular construction methods and locally sourced materials were encouraged in the Master Plan along with peripheral green public spaces to serve as urban spines for hotel guests and local community members alike. The site is bordered by the Tiracol River and the Arabian Sea on either end. As a result, the site had to follow a strict Coastal preservation zone constraint. This, along with the setbacks resulting from the heritage zone around the neighboring Tiracol Fort, resulted in about 75% of the construction only allowing temporary construction. These constraints inspired dynamic planning of the site with temporal features like seasonal "luxury camping" in the temporary zones and spaces activated by seasonal flooding to reveal piers, etc.
The master plan seamlessly blends with the natural landscape, allocating nearly half of the site to a nursery/biodiversity park for local flora and fauna to thrive. This area could also double as a gallery space extending to the adjacent heritage fort. A public walkway, lined with temporary rain shelters, was created along the scenic coast.
An existing jetty was repurposed as an educational platform for visitors to learn about traditional Goan boat-building and fishing practices.
